How many of us have the 'busy disease'? Keeping ourselves busy with a long to-do list. Checking off one item at a time from the list makes us feel accomplished and relevant. However, too often, we hear "I am too busy to go to the gym". In fact our co-founders Debra & Tudi have often joked that ever since they started Cycling Bears, a fitness business, they have much less time to stay fit.
Fast food is often cheaper and more convenient than organic fruit and vegetables. And having a busy schedule often leaves us too tired by the end of the day. It's no wonder that obesity rate is on the rise, together with other health issues.
For those who are trying to live a healthier lifestyle, it can be hard to know where to start. Luckily, there are a few easy tweaks that anyone can make to start living a healthier life.
If you want to get healthy but don't have the time or energy to do so, this blog is for you.
- 1. Set realistic goals for yourself
If you want to lose weight, don't try to lose too much too quickly. You're more likely to stick to your plan if you take small sustainable steps.
- 2. Find ways to fit exercise into your schedule
If you can't commit to going to the gym every day, try working out at home or taking a brisk walk during your lunch break. Experts recommend at least 150minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week. Every little bit counts!
- 3. Get up and move around and stretch every hour
Even if you can't make it to the gym for a full workout, simply getting up and moving around for a few minutes each hour with a nice stretch, will help keep your body active and improve your overall circulation.
- 4. Always order the healthy option on the menu
It is always tempting to order the deep fried chicken or steak, but go for the fish and vegetable option. You will find that it quickly becomes a habit after a couple of weeks. Then every so often, you can allow yourself a cheat day!
- 5. Pack your own meals and snacks
When you're on the go, it's tempting to stop at the nearest fast food restaurant or vending machine for a quick bite. Having some healthy snacks readily available will help reduce that temptation.
- 6. Take time to stop, breathe and even meditate
A healthy lifestyle is one of the best things you can do for your body and your mind. It helps prevent diseases, you feel better overall, have more energy, and improve your sleep.
